About NIMAREX

Showcasing the Largest Assembly of Maritime Industry Products and Services in Sub-Sahara Africa

Introduction

The idea for a Nigeria Maritime Conference and Exhibition was conceived by the Indigenous ShipOwners Association of Nigeria (ISAN) now NISA.

It was thought that the time had come for the country to host annually a conference and exhibition. The idea was to ensure that the annual event will bring together all of the industry and the International Shipping Community.

The major reason for this international conference was and still is the networking opportunities. International conferences bring together professionals, researchers, and experts from various fields and countries. These events provide a platform for networking and establishing connections with like-minded individuals, potential collaborators, and investors.

ISAN was convinced that this should be an industryConference to promote Nigeria, its maritime industry , showcase new products, innovations, industry trends and forge business connections.

It was decided that the event would be a mirror of the annual Posedonia.

Posidonia, the international shipping exhibition, has long been established as one of the major calendar events of the shipping industry internationally. Posidonia attracts the most influential personalities from the Greek and international shipping community and major companies and organisations active in all sectors of the shipping industry. The international exhibition Posidonia first took place in 1969 and has been taking place every two years ever since.

NIMAREX

The first edition took place in 2011 hosted by IndigenousShipOwners Association of Nigeria (ISAN) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation and all its agencies. The planning committee of The Nigeria Maritime Conference and Exhibition fashioned it after Posidonia international Exhibition, the HamburgShip building machinery and Marine Technology Trade Fair, the OTC Trade Fair and Exhibition in USA and the Asia Maritime Exhibition.

The organisers of Nigeria Maritime Conference and Exhibition recognized the Maritime potentials of Nigeria in West and Central Africa. Some of these potentials include:

A long coast line of about 850 km A large population of more 200m people. More than 10,000km of inland water ways. 6 International Seaports now 7 with the commencement of operation at Lekki port Generated 60% of Cargo throughout in west and Central Africa Crude oil reserve of 37.2 billion barrels. LNG reserve of over 7 trillion cubic metres. Rich in fish reserve Extensive maritime domain with a lengthy continental zone of 200km

It was envisaged that if all the above potentials were harnessed, Nigeria will be repositioned in west and central Africa as a logistic hub.
